DELIVERING RESULTS FOR MACON-BIBB, MONROE COUNTY & MIDDLE GEORGIA
Tangie’s Accomplishments
A Record of Results for Georgia Families
As the State Representative for Georgia House District 145, Tangie Herring has built a reputation for working across the aisle to solve problems and deliver meaningful results for the people of Macon-Bibb County, Monroe County and communities across Middle Georgia. Drawing on nearly three decades as a Georgia public school educator, Tangie brings practical experience, thoughtful leadership and a commitment to putting people before politics.
Whether advocating for stronger public schools, expanding mental health resources, supporting seniors, increasing housing opportunities or strengthening Georgia’s workforce, Rep. Herring has focused on legislation that improves everyday life for the families she represents.
Supporting Student Mental Health
HB 1045 / SB 589 (The “You Are Not Alone” Awareness Act)
Tangie spearheaded legislation requiring Georgia middle and high school student identification cards to include the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline alongside the message, “You Are Not Alone.” The bipartisan legislation received unanimous approval from the Georgia General Assembly and was signed into law, helping ensure students have immediate access to life-saving mental health resources.
Delivering Property Tax Relief for Bibb County Seniors
HB 1537 & HB 1538
Tangie sponsored legislation expanding property tax relief for Bibb County senior homeowners by increasing exemptions for residents ages 65-84 and creating a full exemption for homeowners age 85 and older. These bills were signed into law in 2026, helping seniors remain in their homes while easing the financial burden of rising property taxes.
Supporting Georgia’s Public Schools
HB 372 / SB 150
Tangie co-sponsored legislation allowing retired educators to return to Georgia classrooms in critical-need areas without jeopardizing their retirement benefits. The legislation helps address teacher shortages while keeping experienced educators where they are needed most.
Expanding Housing Opportunities
HB 1166
Tangie supported legislation expanding housing options by allowing homeowners to build a secondary dwelling on their property without unnecessary zoning hurdles. The measure helps increase housing availability while giving Georgia families greater flexibility and affordable housing options.
Fighting for Georgia’s Teachers
HB 333
Tangie introduced legislation to require Georgia’s minimum teacher salary schedule to be adjusted annually based on the cost of living. While the bill did not become law, it reflected her ongoing commitment to recruiting and retaining outstanding teachers and ensuring educators receive the compensation they deserve.
Committee Leadership
Rep. Herring serves on several key committees in the Georgia House of Representatives, where she helps shape legislation affecting education, healthcare and Georgia families. Her committee assignments include:
House Agriculture & Consumer Affairs Committee
House Code Revision Committee
House Economic Development & Tourism Committee
House Urban Affairs Committee,
Recognizing her leadership on youth issues, House Speaker Jon Burns appointed Rep. Herring to the House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on the Impact of Online Platforms on Georgia Youth, where she worked with fellow legislators and policy experts to examine the effects of social media and online platforms on children’s mental health and well-being.
