Meet Tangie

LIFELONG EDUCATOR. COMMUNITY LEADER. PROVEN ADVOCATE FOR GEORGIA HOUSE DISTRICT 145.

Rooted in Middle GA. Guided by Service.

Born and raised in Macon, Tangie’s roots run deep. Growing up in the Bloomfield neighborhood, she learned the values of faith, service and perseverance from her family. Her father served as a career Airman in the United States Air Force, while her mother dedicated her career to education. During her father’s deployment to Vietnam, Tangie and her mother lived with her grandmother, one of the first Black women employed by the Keebler Company in Macon. Those early experiences taught her the importance of neighbors helping neighbors and inspired a lifelong commitment to public service.

Rooted in faith from an early age, Representative Herring grew up attending Greater Vineville Baptist Church and remains an active member of Glorious Hope Baptist Church in Macon, GA. Tangie's faith continues to guide her leadership and commitment to serving others with compassion, integrity and purpose. She credits the strong women in her family with teaching her to challenge the status quo, stand up for what is right and always give back to her community.

"Leadership isn't about politics—it's about delivering results that strengthen our communities and create opportunities for everyone."

From the Classroom to the Capitol

Before serving in the Georgia General Assembly, Tangie devoted nearly three decades to teaching in Georgia’s public schools, helping generations of students succeed while advocating for stronger public schools, educational excellence and greater opportunity for every child. Her classroom experience continues to shape her work as a legislator, where she fights for students, teachers and working families across Middle Georgia.

Tangie earned degrees from Georgia College, Fort Valley State University, Mercer University and Georgia State University. She is also the author of the children’s book When I Look Into My Daughter’s Eyes, reflecting her lifelong belief in literacy, family and the limitless potential of every child.

Working to Build a Stronger Middle Georgia

In addition to her career in education, Tangie is a small business owner and longtime advocate for neighborhood revitalization, affordable housing and economic development. Throughout her career, she has worked to strengthen neighborhoods, expand opportunity and improve quality of life for families throughout Macon-Bibb and Monroe Counties.

Today, as the State Representative for Georgia House District 145, Tangie Herring is focused on delivering practical solutions that make a difference. Her priorities include strengthening public education, supporting public safety, creating jobs, encouraging responsible economic development, revitalizing neighborhoods, investing in infrastructure, protecting taxpayers through responsible budgeting and ensuring every family has the opportunity to succeed. She believes the government should work for the people, and she is committed to making sure every voice is heard under the Gold Dome.
